Stand up and Build

Stand up and Build are a charity in Burundi who help build schools so children can learn the same amount as we do.  Tim (who is the founder of Stand up and Build) came in and answered some questions for us, here is what we learnt:

The people in Burundi often grow their own vegetables as a way of providing their families with food.  Most families only have 1 meal per day, this is normally plantain, beans, Irish potatoes, eggs and chicken.

The children have to walk for 2-3 hours to get to school, they only get 4 lessons per day!

With the money that we raised they intend to build toilets with different genders (at the moment everyone shares), better desks and outside space.

They are also going to use the money to put electricity into the school for computers and lights for study.

They are looking in the future to build a boarding school so the children don't have to walk so far each day.
